November 6, 2026 | Joseph — Khemetic Nation News Network, World Desk. The European Commission has explained how its newly announced sanctions office and cryptocurrency-focused task force will work as the European Union seeks to prevent evasion of restrictions against Russia.
What Brussels confirmed Friday
At the Commission’s November 6 midday briefing, a spokesperson said the new sanctions office will bring together existing work across the full sanctions process, including policy design, practical implementation, outreach, and efforts to combat circumvention. The office was announced the day before during a meeting of sanctions coordinators; Friday’s on-record comments provided additional detail.
Officials also described an informal task force on cryptocurrency sanctions. The stated aim is to connect expertise inside the Commission with specialists from EU member states so they can assess emerging ways digital assets may be used to circumvent restrictions.
Why cryptocurrency is under scrutiny
The EU has imposed a series of sanctions packages over Russia’s war in Ukraine. Sanctions can lose effectiveness when restricted transactions are routed through intermediaries, alternative payment methods, or opaque corporate structures. Authorities say the task force will examine how to close loopholes as those methods evolve.
The Commission said it is working on a 22nd sanctions package. That package was described as in development, not as a set of newly enacted measures. No specific crypto service or individual was identified as having committed wrongdoing in the briefing, and the existence of a task force should not be confused with findings against particular users.
